Bury Market Flexihall
A highly adaptable civic asset
Central to the masterplan is Bury’s new, energy-efficient three-storey, 23,400 sq ft Flexi Hall, located off Angouleme Way. The Flexihall is adjacent to the market square and sits in place of 2 outdated structures including a casino.

Designed as a highly adaptable civic asset, the hall will host flexible spaces for traditional market trading, events, live performances, exhibitions, community activities, pop-up traders, a dedicated food and drink area, and upper-floor meeting spaces. This versatility ensures the market remains active throughout the day and into the evening, generating energy, footfall, and opportunity well beyond traditional trading hours.
The building’s facades are designed to minimise intense direct sunlight with an overhanging canopy, while glazed panels on a protruding upper portion face the market square. The structure is crafted from spruce cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with larch glulam beams, and the envelope is clad in heat-treated Accoya, combining durability, sustainability, and a warm, tactile material palette that reflects the industrious and resilient character of Bury Market. This makes the Flexi Hall one of the largest timber buildings in the country.
