Tucked within a secluded cove on the North Yorkshire coast near Robin Hood’s Bay, the project carefully balances the character of the historic “Old Mill” building with a bold contemporary addition.
Internally, the refurbishment introduced warm, imaginative interiors that reflect the playful spirit of Boggle Hole, creating a welcoming environment for families, walkers and school groups exploring the Yorkshire Heritage Coast.
The new annex is conceived as a simple, robust form clad in black zinc, creating a striking yet understated contrast with the existing stone structure. Designed as a modern bunker-like volume embedded within the landscape, the extension provides additional accommodation while responding to the rugged coastal setting.
